Bio: The product of a trying environment the young man born Hector Vicenty, had to have the will to survive before he could thrive. By the age of 12, due to a troubled home-life, Hector had been deemed a ward of the state and committed to a life of foster care due to circumstances beyond his control. The tumultuous turns of transitional living – going to sleep one place, only to be shaken awake in the depth of the night, whisked off by authorities, and waking up in another – would be enough to break the will of any one of us. Add that to the fact that this was a young man who had been torn away from the only family he had ever known, the family he had loved dearly. But, Hector was different. During his time spent bouncing from foster home to foster home he developed the presence of mind to take to his pen and pad and jot down his thoughts and emotions.
Using his journal as both a release from his feelings of loss and despair as well a medium to express his penchant for love, Hector’s means of expression and release, soon became his one true love. .. As quickly and naturally as day ceding into night, what started as this young man’s means of release, manifested itself into the gift of song. Despite the immeasurable odds that he faced day to day as a result of foster care, Hector began to hone his craft of singing and song writing at a frenetic pace, working tirelessly to out due each days work with that of the next. .. Within a year Hector found himself making the rounds of the local talent competitions in his hometown where he became known as a crowd favorite.
While at a competition at the University of Connecticut, Hector, a soloist at the time, went head to head with a locally respected R & B group by the name of 21 Summit. Despite being out numbered by the fiercely competitive and resoundingly strong vocals of the members of 21 Summit, Hector would leave that day’s competition a winner, handing the group their first known defeat. Hector vanquished the group in such an emphatic, yet gracious fashion, that the very polished and professional 21 Summit, invited Hector along to join their fold. It was here, while with the group that Hector Vicenty earned the moniker Hector Troy, exuding confidence, heart and courage much akin to his namesake the great Trojan warrior Prince, Hector of Troy.
Taking the helm as lead singer, Hector and the group performed extensively up and down the eastern seaboard for nearly two years. After spending nearly 24 months on a schedule that permitted little else for the group of young men to do other than perform, the core members of the group decided to pursuit other avenues within music and 21 Summit as it had been known up until that point, had officially disbanded. Faced with the prospect of either turning away from music altogether or going into the world of production and song writing as his group members had, Hector opted instead to carry on his pursuits of being a solo artist.
With the support of his former group members as well as the growing following that he amassed during the previous years of performing, Hector struck out on his own. Entering himself in the largest competition in his state at the time (the 2006 Connecticut Idol competition), Hector, a single face in a sea of thousands of onlookers, managed to win them all over with his sultry yet powerful voice. Making an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of the audience, judges and competition alike, Hector was deservedly crowned Connecticut Idol.
Going on to enter a working agreement with his former 21 Summit group members who had dove deeper into the business pursuits of music and formed their own company, Hector began writing and recording his debut L.P. “The Ballad of Hector Troy”. After the February 2007 independent release of “The Ballad of Hector Troy” the company that the former members of 21 Summit had yet again disbanded, but not before putting together a body of work so impressive that it’s impact began to spread virally. Generating a buzz across the expanse of the world-wide web, gaining marked popularity in places as far Germany and Japan, the voice of Hector Troy could not and would not be denied.
As Hector took his time, working alone to stretch the promotional and marketing efforts of “The Ballad of Hector Troy”, as well as writing and performing new material and taking meetings with major labels, he kept his eyes on what the fans had been saying in his absence. Songs like “Key to my Heart” a breakout hit that has amassed more than a quarter million aggregated views on YouTube alone – all via fan submitted videos, opened Hector’s ears to the fans demands. Sentiments such as “I Miss You” and more were echoed by many, far and wide. Pages on social networking sites such as Facebook, Myspace, iLike and Last.Fm were created my fans in Hector’s absence in appreciation of his deft singing and song writing ability. These actions compelled Hector to understand that the people that supported his music were not fans, but “fam”.
A family that supported him, despite his absence and a family that deserved Hector writing and singing at his best. Throwing caution to the wind, Hector answered his fams call. Instead of waiting on the majors, Hector decided to strike back out, going indie and giving his fam exactly what they wanted. .. With a newly minted single, “If It Ain’t You” along with an E.P. in the works tentatively entitled “Lost In The Moment”, expected to be released early 2011 Hector Troy is back working as hard as ever, refusing to ever let himself or his fam – the supporters, from near and far who have each been there from the moment they first heard his voice -
